La educación ocupa el primer lugar de la agenda del Gobierno en este momento, pero los estudiantes chilenos tendrán un oscuro futuro sin suministros de energía confiables. De hecho, la energía es uno de los temas de política publica más importantes a los que Chile necesita hacer frente si quiere continuar con su crecimiento económico y unirse al club de los países desarrollados para fines de esta década.

Education is top of the government’s agenda at the moment but Chilean students will have a dim future without reliable energy supplies. In fact, energy is one of the most important public policy issues Chile needs to address if it is to continue its economic growth and join the club of developed countries by the end of this decade.

On October 15-17, the American Association of Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA), which groups the 23 AmChams in the region, held its Annual Meeting in Washington DC. AmCham Chile’s delegation was led by the Chamber’s president, Javier Irarrázaval, who was accompanied by Jaime Bazán, AmCham’s general manager, and Paulina Dellafiori, events and marketing manager. The program consisted of two days of seminars and meetings with the participation of prominent speakers from Washington’s political scene.

On June 12-14, the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) held its Mid-Year Meeting and annual Business Future of the Americas conference in Cartagena, Colombia.

Entre el 12 y el 14 de junio, la Asociación de Cámaras Americanas de Comercio en Latinoamérica (AACCLA, por su sigla en inglés) celebró su reunión semestral en conjunto con su conferencia anual Business Future of the Americas en Cartagena, Colombia.

En mayo del 2010, Chile se convirtió en el segundo miembro latinoamericano de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos (OCDE) después de México.

La invitación a unirse a la organización fue el reflejo de los avances de Chile, incluidas sus sólidas instituciones, robusto marco macroeconómico y las medidas que ha adoptado el país para liberalizar el comercio, mejorar la inversión y fortalecer las políticas sociales.

The invitation to join the organization was a reflection of Chile’s progress including its sound institutions, solid macroeconomic framework, and the measures it has adopted to liberalize trade, enhance investment and strengthen social policies.

Chile was a founding member of the trade pact, previously known as P4, when it came into force in 2006 along with Brunei, New Zealand and Singapore.

Amcham Chile’s CEO Jaime Bazan led the Chilean delegation which included Nora Balzarotti, head of the Research Department, and Kathleen Barclay, past Chair of AACCLA and Chair of the bUSiness CHILE Editorial Board.

The optimism of the participants was palpable. In general, with a few notable exceptions, vibrant democracies are flourishing in the region and economic growth is strong with a favorable outlook for 2011.
